To save your time to meet compliance requirements, we have simplified the Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) and the Reason Why documents into one simple form. You can start using the attached FNA + RWL, which also can be found from Virtgate. The OLD FNA and OLD Reason Why will no longer be used after Oct 1st.

First Home Savings Account (FHSA) Reason Why Letter is now available in our online folder and also available on VirtGate under the Supplies & Forms.

These new features will improve straight through processing and aim to reduce additional email communications requesting further underwriting information from potential life insureds. Key dates for Year-end 2023

December 1: Last day to submit conversion applications.

December 14: Last day to courier settlement documents to guarantee 2023 commission payout.

December 15: Last day for Sun Life to receive settlement documents (including cheques), to count the toward 2023 commissions.

December 19: Sun Life’s settlement close date for 2023 commissions.

Commission payout will happen before the end of the year, based on the applicable remuneration schedule.

Settling policies from December 20-22 – If Sun Life settle a policy between December 20 – 22, it’s possible that it will count toward your 2023 commissions. There are many factors that will determine when the commission will be paid out during this time (e.g. advisor bank selection, product type etc.).

Illustration software (version 5.0) is now available

The new version of Canada Life Concourse™ includes the following changes:

  • New Canada Life My Term™ rates that are more competitive across all term lengths.
  • A new rate band for policies with face amounts of $2,000,000 to $4,999,999.
  • New eligibility ranges for preferred rates.
  • Illustrations for up to $25 million, an increase from $20 million.

Web-based Canada Life illustrations has been updated with the latest term rates and banding and now includes disability insurance.

It’s easy to update with AutoUpdater – just open your current version of Concourse. Be sure to complete both parts of the update. Here is the details of the new version of Canada Life Concourse™

Web-based Canada Life Illustrations

Estate Transfer + and Corporate Estate Transfer + are now integrated within Canada Life Illustrations and we’re working on adding more. In the meantime, did you know that you can easily export illustration data to use with Excel-based sales strategies?
Use the Export data button (within the Illustration report tab) to get started.

Faster death claims with online submission

Canada Life launched online claims for individual life insurance and wealth policies on July 13. Claims are reviewed by a designated examiner and the decisions can be made within a week, but complex cases may take longer. Once a decision is made, claimants will receive written confirmation and payments are processed promptly. To save time, start the online life and wealth claims here or Critical illness and Disability claims here. Please refer to the attached document for full details on the handling of the claim.

Make cyber security a priority – new support materials available
Cyber security threats happen every day and can be complex. The financial services industry, especially advisors with small to medium sized businesses are a prime target for cyber criminals. Criminals may attempt to use your computer, network, or email to unlawfully conduct transactions, withdraw funds, destroy, steal or gain information. Nathan Janzen and Carrie Freestone of the RBC Economics team provided their insights with respect to their previous of the economy for next week and discuss implications of inflation continuing to rise in the US due to soaring gasoline prices. This of course could likely lead to the US Federal Reserve continuing to raise interest rates, which will put pressure on the Bank of Canada to follow.

New Digital Policy Loan Form

EquiNet™ introduces a new digital policy loan form for advisors. It’s quick and intuitive, allowing advisors to specify the loan amount and disbursement method for the eligible policies.

To access the form, advisors can visit the Values tab in Policy Inquiry and provide the required details, such as loan amount, preferred payment method, and client’s contact information. After submission, the form goes for electronic signature and processing within service standards. Owners can also view the Policy Loan Agreement on Client Access. Please refer to the attached document for a detailed guide on Requesting a Loan for your client.

Economic Update & Latest Housing Report

RBC release their Flobal Investment Outlook for the Summer of 2023, along with the Executive Summary, an Asset Class Commentary as well as a One Minute Market Update. Nathan Janzen and Claire Fan released some economic commentaries looking at both the Canadian and US employment numbers, along with their weekly guidance, where they speak to the fact that the Bank of Canada is likely to raise interest rates yet again. In addition, Robert Hogue has released his latest update on Canadian Housing where he takes a look at the major markets across the country and what the reactions have been to the latest interest rate increases. RBC GIF Risk Rating Change

Faster Commission Payments by WAY

To support your business’ rapid growth, the Platform has upgraded its system to increase commission payment frequency from bi-weekly to weekly and enhance statement distribution, starting on June 14.  Here are the details below:

  1. Payment is made every Wednesday (Thursday if there is a holiday that week).
  2. Members receiving FundServ commissions will get an e-mail notification. The FundServ commission statement remains available on VirtGate.

New version of Canada Life Concourse™ offers several updates and enhancements:

Universal Life Insurance: 

  • Competitive pricing and unique cost of insurance rates

Participating Life Insurance:

  • New dividend scale interest rates, effective July 1
  • Updated maximums for additional deposit option, enhanced coverage options and one-year term rates for enhanced coverage option
  • New premium deposit account interest rate and policy loan interest rate
  • Increased illustration maximums – up to $25 million total coverage for rated & unrated cases.

Lower Term rates for key segments 

Starting June 26, premium costs on new term life insurance products for select age groups and coverage amounts will be reduced.  The reduction in rates makes the product more affordable while maintaining its quality, and advisor can offer clients a competitive option.  Click here for more details.

Workspace update: Term and universal life insurance policy summaries

Advisor will be available to export the details of term and universal life insurance policy details as a PDF report.  On the policy details page, you’ll see an Export Summary button.

  • Banking information to adhere to strict customer privacy guidelines is removed.

A new sales platform, AdvisorMax, is launched on May 1 to give you and your customer a greater flexibility, ease and an all-around better experience.  You should receive a welcome email with login details to access AdvisorMax, where you can get quote and sell the travel insurance.  All new policy sales should be made in AdvisorMax after May 1.  You will continue to have access to Quicktic to view, cancel and make changes on policies sold prior to May 1.

Training for this new platform will be available on Allianz Academy.

2023 Canada Life Dividend Scale Announcement

The dividend scales will increase for Canada Life’s combined open participating account and closed account for the second year in a row, effective July 1. The 2023 dividend scale can be illustrated using the web-based Canada Life Illustrations, accessed through Workspace starting May 1.  Both Workspace and Concourse illustration software will be updated as well. Manulife Online Transactions Open for All Members

We are pleased to inform you that to facilitate your business processing and trade requests, the Platform has requested Manulife to extend the online transaction functions to all Members, meaning you can now complete your own dollar cost average set-up, fund switches and withdrawals directly on Manulife Resource.  Other functions available are listed below.

While this will allow greater flexibility in managing your clients’ Manulife accounts, compliance requirements such as maintaining an up-to-date KYC (each has a two-years validity) and getting clients’ confirmation prior to a trade continue to be required.  Make use of the technology provided by Way like Apps in VirtGate ThinkPort to help you document client correspondence.

For those of you unfamiliar with Manulife’s Online Transactions, it is highly recommended that you complete the relevant training sessions here Investments (manulife.com) prior to placing your trades.  Manulife will hold the advisor accountable for incorrectly placed trades.

Alternatively, you can fax your trade requests to Manulife at 1-877-277-3774.  Make sure you submit your request to us by noon 12:00PM (PST) (the same part in the Members’ Info Kit on same-day processing and priority on first 10 cases).

A Shorter Chargeback Option for Segregated Fund Policies

A new two-year chargeback sales charge option for Canada life Segregated Funds policies will be available on or about May 12, 2023. It will complement the existing four‑year chargeback and front-end load (FEL) options, giving you access to flexible options to suit your business, as well as, earning the competitive commission.  Check out this Q&A for more information.

Changes to Solutions Banking™ and All in One products offered through Canada Life

Canada Life decided not to renew their agreement with National Bank of Canada for the banking products and services will be expired at the end May 2023.  Starting in June, clients will need to contact National Bank directly for all inquiries and to request changes on their accounts.  Client account limits are not impacted and client will no need to take action in response to this change.  A letter of notification will be sent out to client by Canada Life in recent and another letter will be sent by National Bank on or after June 1.  Check out this Q&A for more information.

Manulife Online Transactions Open for All Members

We are pleased to inform you that to facilitate your business processing and trade requests, the Platform has requested Manulife to extend the online transaction functions to all Members, meaning you can now complete your own dollar cost average set-up, fund switches and withdrawals directly on Manulife Resource.  Other functions available are listed below.

While this will allow greater flexibility in managing your clients’ Manulife accounts, compliance requirements such as maintaining an up-to-date KYC (each has a two-years validity) and getting clients’ confirmation prior to a trade continue to be required.  Make use of the technology provided by Way like Apps in VirtGate ThinkPort to help you document client correspondence.

For those of you unfamiliar with Manulife’s Online Transactions, it is highly recommended that you complete the relevant training sessions here Investments (manulife.com) prior to placing your trades.  Manulife will hold the advisor accountable for incorrectly placed trades.

Alternatively, you can fax your trade requests to Manulife at 1-877-277-3774.  Of course, you are always welcome to send your requests to process@www.wayfinancial.ca for our assistance.  Make sure you submit your request to us by noon 12:00PM (PST) (the same part in the Members’ Info Kit on same-day processing and priority on first 10 cases).

Here’s the list of functions you can do at your ease on Manulife Repsource

  • Fund switches
  • DCA set-up
  • Withdrawals
  • SWP set-up & changes
  • Guarantee resets
  • Address changes (also available for insurance policies)
  • Non-financial changes: beneficiary, name, successor owner/annuitant

Reminder on E&O Renewal and uploading on Apexa

For Members using BFL for their E&O insurer, please be reminded to renew your coverage before April 1 at BFL Canada Life Agents E&O Insurance and upload the renewed policy to your Apexa account. Check out the Apexa guidelines to take you through the steps.

Deferred Sales Charges (DSC)

Effective May 12, Canada Life will no longer accept new contributions into DSC options for their Segregated Funds policies. Clients with active PAC instructions into the DSC option will be automatically moved into the FEL 0% option of the same funds. If you want an alternate arrangement, you will need to provide new instructions by April 28.

For older policies including Generations, Generations Core, Generations I, and Generations II policies, contributions can continue for policies where DSC is the only sales charge option available, provided disclosure about the other sales charge options available is given to the client before accepting contributions.  Clients with existing PAC will receive the disclosure from Canada Life and for non-scheduled contributions, new PACs or increase PAC contributions on or after May 12 will require the DSC contribution disclosure form before contributions can be made. Discontinuing Deferred Sales Charges (DSC) / Diploma RESP product

In line with regulatory requirements, iA announced that effective May 26 they will no longer offer the Deferred Sales Charge (DSC) option for segregated fund deposits and the Diploma RESP product will no longer be available for new sales as well.  All PAD or automatic investment term (AIT) that included funds with DSC option will be automatically changed to the FEL 0%. If you want an alternate arrangement, you will need to provide new instructions by May 12, 2023.

For Diploma RESP, contracts with existing PAD will continue as usual but can no longer increase their monthly PAD amount. However, the client can make lump-sum contributions to their Diploma RESP account, such as by cheque, one-time PAD or through internet banking. If you want to increase the RESP Diploma PAC amount, please submit your request by May 12, 2023.

To meet the above deadline, all the electronic applications should be signed (LTA is not accepted) and submitted to iA by 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) on May 12, 2023. For paper applications, please e-mail the request to process@www.wayfinancial.ca or put it in the NB box by 9:30 a.m. PST, May 12, 2023.
